Cab-O-Sil Fumed Silica
Fumed Silica—sometimes referred to as Cabosil (registered trademark of Cabot) or Aerosil (registered trademark of Degussa)—is a thickening agent that you can add to your resin to prevent it from running. The more you add, the thicker the resin will become. Fumed Silica is probably the most widely used filler. By adding this filler, you can turn the resin from free-running into anything right up to a thick, pasty material that resembles peanut butter. It is also ideal when you want to use MIAPOXY as an adhesive, or when you want to fill in a small void or even make fillets along a surface. It can be added to the resin to improve abrasion resistance and make your fairing mix a lot smoother and more consistent.
