All sugar pine pattern lumber stocked by Freeman is kiln-dried and selected to meet the exacting specifications and requirements of pattern and model makers. By maintaining an average moisture content of 10% to 12%, selecting from specific domestic mills and storing in climate controled warehouses ,we ensure that our customers receive boards that are stable and consistent in quality.
Pine No. 2 Common is a very popular standard grade for the patternmaker. The entire board can be used in a wide range of applications where tight, sound knots do not affect performance and cost is a major factor. Tight knots are generally limited to 3 3/4", but most are significantly smaller and well-spaced. Spike knots are permitted, but we purchase our lumber with the objective of minimizing this defect.
Pine No. 3 Common is the most economical choice for the patternmaker, this grade is typically used for medium to large applications where cost of the lumber is of primary importance and surface rework is allowed. The most notable surface imperfections are random knots on both surfaces. Tight knots may be up to 4 1/2" in diameter while loose knots may be up to 2 1/2" in diameter.
